Motorcycling is a great pasttime on Phuket. The Island is truly a Biker's Heaven. The Island has good long winding roads around some of the most beautiful coastline you can imagine.

There is nothing better than cruising north  from Patong Beach to Lam Sing, or conversly, south over the verdant tropical hills to Karon, Kata, Viewpoint and  Cape Promthep. The little things will stay in your memories such as the taste of salt in the air, the warmth of the sun on your back and the cool breeze in your face.

When renting though, we reccommend that you never leave your passport with the bike shop, just a photocopy.
There are several Bikers' conventions that grace the Island each year. Amongst them is the Asian Harley Association and the Honda Golden Wing Club.  For motorcycle enthusiasts there is nothing like a ride on their dreambike. For many of the dreamers a pretty girl sitting on the back completes the picture and few places in the world come as close to that dream as the Island of Phuket. motorbike3.jpg (15684 bytes)

Young European males tend to contribute to these statistics as well but mainly through their own stupidity. You can have fun and stay healthy by using your eyes, keeping your speed down,  and wearing a helmet. Be aware that there are animals on the roads such as: dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, goats, buffaloes and snakes.  Roadwork may not be properly marked or marked at all.

The driving style here is different than at home, to put it mildly. Look out to all sides, Thais don't mind riding against the flow of traffic now and then.
One more important piece of advice is that there are no insurances on those bikes!  In case of an accident you will be held guilty and have to pay no matter what.
