A Few years ago Thailand was an elephants'
paradise. Thousands of these great elephants roamed the jungles at will but now this has
changed dramatically. Today there are still quite a few elephant herds living in the North
of Thailand were elephants also still revered as a working animal.
Lately the elephants have reoccupied Phuket Island. Not by
themselves but in the form of a reimport that gives the tourist an opportunity to
experience what the rich and famous did in the last century: riding on an elephant's back
just for the pleasure of trip!
In the elephant camps around Patong you can
see those big animals and take a ride. We recommend Kalim Elephant Trekking Kalim Beach
North Patong.
The Elephants at
Kalim Elephant Trekking are so well trained that they were selected to carry
staff and golfers alike at the 1998 Johnny Walker Golf Classic won by world
superstar Tiger Woods - You can see him pictured with the Kalim Elephants.
Today in Phuket the Thai Elephants are still in the
jungle but not moving tons of logs under heavy punishment. They now carry people
4 - 5 times a day and believe us this is certinly better than logs. Help them by
supporting us. Not only ride them on the trail but help us feed them. Elephants eat 250
Kgs of food a day and drinks 200 liters of water a day.
