Harley Davidson 1942

When you drive down Sai Nam Yen towards Patong, take a look to your left and you will notice this machine. Just 100 meters from the traffic-light sits a marvelous advertising design for a shop called "Dan Ngan" (Long Story). Appropriately this shop sells Army fatigues, leather clothes and leather boots made to order.

Its owner is a gentle giant, with a face that looks constantly worried. Mister Deahd (translates to "Big Power) is proud of his craft, he is proud of his shop, which he has decorated himself and of course he is proud like a chipmunk over his Harley.

-This is an original Harley Davidson 1942 model WLA, 750cc, 3 speed, Mr. Deahd says. The bike was brought to Thailand by the US Army during Second World War and it has belonged to my family for over 30 years.

Mr. Deahd rides the old bike every day, rain or shine. By the way - the mannequin dolls belong to Mr. Deahd's friend, Mr. Eez, who has a model fashion shop right next door.

Lately, the old Harley has won Mr. Deahd a Special Award at the Phuket Bike Week 1998. This bike was the only one in its class.

Old beauty never loses its magic. There may be a screw missing - but it's working just the same.

It's a Phuket bike, allright!
