Gecko...pic by trv.netGeckos are a distinctive family of rather small lizards. The Tockay gecko is one of the largest species. Many of the Geckos have developed a rare ability to move around on any surface, vertical as well as horizontal. It is common that they can "walk around" in the ceiling. They are also equipped with sharp claws to provide grip on rough surfaces. Geckos can be found in many places but they all eat insects and various small animal prey and they usually lay two eggs at a time. Most Geckos are able to make clicking sounds and some of them can even produce loud, distinctive sounds that confirms their presence at once. Geckos have the ability to shed their tails in the event of an attack. The slightest touch can be enough for a Gecko to drop its tail. The skin of the body is also very fragile which permits escape even when held at the body. Knowing this, you will probably realize that the best thing is to leave these lizards alone.

Tockay
Gekko gecko

This is one of the most distinctive lizards in south east Asia. The Tockay is more often heard than seen. During part of the year, males give an unmistakable, loud call (took-eeh), repeated several times. Females remain silent. Normally, these animals are territorial. They live in groups consisting of a male, a female and immature offspring. In the night time they hunt on houses or in trees. Ambush is a preferred hunting technique. During the daytime they rest in a crevice or similar. They eat large insects such as beetles and termites but they also take other types of prey.
