Some
of the people who find their way to Phuket for their holiday also make it to Phuket Town.
Which by all means is a good idea. Here you can you can get the feel of a city that hasn't
been built up only for tourists. So, what is there to do in Phuket Town? Well, there are
many things you can do here and one of those things is to go shopping. The prices seem to
be lower than those in Patong Beach and the other tourist areas of Phuket. And you find
all the brand names here. Robinson is a five story building with everything from groceries
to fitness equip- ment. On the bottom floor you will find groceries, cheap clothing and various
market style merchandise. The bottom floor is usually pretty cool with no obvious
organization. It's also packed full of bargains so if you're looking for something to fit
a thin wallet, don't go any further. If you find it in your heart to venture upstairs you
will find all men's clothing, women's clothing and baby clothing you could possibly want.
And then of course, the electronics department. Which for some strange reason is located
on the second highest floor. Which means that they have to transport all that stuff all
the way up there, sell it, and then transport it back down again. This also goes for the
madras section and the home gyms. In the top floor, you can buy something to eat. It's
usually pretty quiet up there. It might have something to do with the fact that there is a
McDonalds, a KFC, a Burger King, a Pizza Hut and a Dunkin' Donuts located on ground level
within very comfortable distances although they're not all in the Robinson building.
"There's
a lot more to find in Phuket Town than in Patong", Koy mentions. "And
the prices are a bit more reasonable" she adds. "I like to go to
Robinson every once in a while, just to stroll around and look for bargains, and sometimes
I really do think I hit a jackpot" she continues.
How will you as a tourist find your way to Robinson warehouse in Phuket
Town? Well, there's a fool proof way (which is universal), go there by tuk tuk. If you
decide to go on your own, just drive in to Phuket Town and start asking people, preferably
motorbike taxi drivers.
Tip: Although you're on vacation and although you're in Thailand, don't
try to get a better price than the one on the tag. You will only draw unnecessary
attention to yourself. The price on the tag is the one you have to pay. In Robinson, that
is...
