"There are numerous "surprises" lying around, just waiting for you to step in them."

On the west coast of Phuket, north of the most popular tourist areas, you find Surin Beach. It's not as crowded as Patong, Karon or Kata so you are likely to have a lot of beach all to yourself. Among the people who do show up here, you find that most of them are Thai. The water is nice, the beach is nice and everything is the way you want it to be. But that's not why we're here. We're here for the buffaloes!

There are quite a few buffaloes in Surin. These animals are big, they have big horns and they should be treated with respect. Although it's very rare that a buffalo hurts anyone, they can cause some trouble for you if they are frightened. So keep your distance, avoid making too much noise and don't try to feed them. Follow these simple rules and you should be ok. And please watch your step! There are numerous "surprises" lying around, just waiting for you to step in them.

"
It's a very nice Beach but it's not always I come down here. I usually stay where the buffaloes are" says Koy. "They are so big, yet so gentle. That's why I like to watch them. It's kind of a contradiction in itself, isn't it?"

Walking around here you need to keep your eyes on the ground every now and then. If an accident would happened (an accident that involves your foot and one of all these "surprises") you can be sure that you're not the first. Or the last...

Next week Koy takes you to Kamala Beach, south of Surin. It's not that far from Patong. Actually perfect for a trip on the Honda Dream. In Kamala you have all the advantages of a crowded beach....without the hassles of a crowded beach. See you there next week!
