The View Point
Featuring Koy

Text & Pictures by Michael Bjorklund

"The viewpoint might not offer the same peace and quiet as some of my other favorites but it's a classic that can't be overlooked."

Blocking the view....pic by trv.netThere's a place on Phuket where every farang on holiday seems to wind up. The name of this place is according to the signs "View Point". Does it get any more precise than that? I don't think so. On one side of the road you have a bunch of vendors trying to sell you refreshments and snacks. And film. Of course it's a little more expensive here but most people seem to think it's worth it. You can usually haggle a little as well. On the other side you have a small parking lot and of course the View Point itself. From here you can see Kata Noi, Kata, Karon and Patong. Of course, it helps if the weather is very clear when you take your pictures. It just so happens to be that the weather is very clear during the high season. Many people come here and very few have reason to regret it. And if you by any chance would happened to be on Phuket on New Years Eve, this is the place to be. There is no better place to stay if you want to see all the fireworks!Far, far away...pic by trv.net

You can see on the signs that this is a long way from home for most people who come here to check out the view.

Although crowded this place has earned a special place in Koy's heart. "Yes, I like it here", she says. "It's a great spot and there is some shade available if the sun is as powerful as it is today." She sure is right about that one. A bottle of bottled water and the nice and cool shade of the trees combined with the view is something else.

So, where can you find this View Point? Well, Go south from Patong through Karon and Kata and keep following the coast line and you'll be sure to find it. And you'll be sure to find use for your camera. The way to travel is of course a motor bike.

ut where are the pictures of the view? you might ask. Well, you're just going to have to take that picture yourself. Sorry...

Be sure to catch next weeks edition of "Goin' Places". Koy takes you to the temple on Koh Sireh. Since Wat Koh Sireh (Wat = Temple), is situated on top of a mountain overlooking Phuket Town it's well worth walking up the stairs. They also have a giant Buddha image inside the Wat. Catch the story next week!
