When you arrive at Phuket Airport, charter guests will be taken to their hotel destinations by the tour buses. For other travelers there are two options: the minibus and limousine service at the ground floor entrance. Minibuses are basically 150 Baht (to Patong), limousines around 650 Baht. Tuktuks are not allowed to pick up guests at the airport, as transport is monopolized by Thai Airways.

When Heading back to the airport travel agencies supply minibuses and limousines to the airport by the hour. Basically the same price range as coming from the Airport.

The buses turn right at Patong Beach Road's Southern intersection at the Novotel and follow the Phra Baramee Road to Phuket Town. Expect the bus to pass Wat Patong ten minutes past the full hour.

The Latest bus leaves at 17:00 hrs and the latest returning bus from Phuket Town leaves at 18:00 hrs. The final stop in Phuket town is the local bus station on Ranong Road (market road) and the Bus Fare is 15 Baht per Person.

gar2.jpg (12487 bytes)The name Tuktuk is said to have originated in Bangkok where the old three-wheeled two-strokes uttered a "tuktuk" sound.

Almost all tuktuks in Patong are small Daihatsu and Isuzu pick-ups, which eak are remodeled with seats and a roof to fit their new purpose. Tell the driver where to go, ask him for the price (don't forget to haggle) and climb into the back.

gar3.jpg (8275 bytes)As you approach your goal, knock on the roof (not on the glass between you and the driver) to indicate, where you want to stop.

Motor Cycle Taxi's are probably the easiest way to get around Patong, Phuket Town or any of the other beach resorts. All you have to do is wave them down by holding your arm out and moving it up and down as they drive by. Alternatively, they have many pickup points stationed around the Island and Towns where you can go directly to and pick up a ride. The same goes for Tuk-Tuk drivers, just tell them where you want to go and they'll do the rest.

gar4.jpg (12686 bytes)If you're looking to get around by yourself then the best mode of transport is the Honda Dream. These bikes have an engine capacity of only 125cc so you cannot go  racing of like some "hoon" on a larg chopper.

They are a comfortable bike to drive with no clutch involved in making gear changes.

The down side of transporting yourselves around on these bikes is that the traffic is starting to get pretty heavy now, especially in Patong and Phuket town. The trafffic is also quite wild with many Thai's having no or only the smallest amount of road sence so be careful.
